Land Rover BAR asked Renishaw to design encoders for its America's Cup racing yacht
The racing yachts that take part in the America's Cup use a sail-wing to drive the vessel forwards using nothing more than the wind. The wing used by the Land Rover BAR race-yacht ‘Rita’, or R1, has a sail area of 103m2 and is 23.5m high, which is comparable to the main wings of an Airbus A320 aircraft.
